SILICA FUME

Silica Fume: (also called microsilica), is made that during smelting silicon iron and industrial silicon, after the oxidation of silicon vapor discharged from the flue, the amorphous and powdered silicon dioxide (Sio2) is collected by specially designed dust collector. The average particle size of the silica fume is 0.1-0.15 μm, which is one of the several hundred points of the average particle size of the cement. The surface area of the surface is 15-27 m2/g, and has very strong surface activity.

Silica Fume is an amorphous product. Its color ranges from white to dark grey and is available in densified and undensified forms.

Silica Fume in High-Performance Concrete

  • Very low permeability to chloride and water intrusion
  • Extremely high electrical resistivity (20 to 100 times greater than ordinary concrete)
  • Increased abrasion resistance on decks, floors, overlays and marine structures
  • Superior resistance to chemical attack from chlorides, acids, nitrates and sulfates
  • Very high-strength concrete

Silica Fume in High Strength Concrete

  • Compressive strengths up to 20,000 psi (140Mpa)
  • High modulus of elasticity exceeding 6 million psi (40,000 Mpa)
  • High flexural strengths (2,000 psi @ 28 days) for airport pavements
  • High early strengths for fast-track construction projects and precast applications

Silica Fume in Oil Well Grouting

  • Improved flow, for easier, more effective application
  • Dramatically decrease permeability, for better control of gas leakage
  • Increased durability and compressive strength

Silica Fume in Refractory & Ceramics

  • Improves particle packing, strength at high temperatures
  • Reduces water while maintaining the same flow characteristics
  • Promotes low temperature sintering & the formation of mullite
  • Reduces permeability to avoid gas, slag and metal penetration

Other Application

  • ELASTOMERS/POLYMERS – used as a filler in rubber or plastic.
  • FERTILIZER – used in the defluorination process during the production of dicalcium phosphate (animal feed).
  • FIBER CEMENT – used to improve strength and permeability of corrugated roofing panels.
  • SHOTCRETE – is sprayed concrete, silica fume reduces rebound & increases bonding strength, productivity and savings in material cost
  • Wallboard – used in commercial gypsum and concrete wallboard products for increased performance
